Attention: NJ Trial Law Practitioners
RE: Updated New Jersey Life Expectancy Chart
In tort claims,
New Jersey court rules require use of life expectancy
figures that are the combination of male and female life
expectancies. Unfortunately, it has been some time since
the table was published and it has not been updated since.
We checked the source used by the New Jersey Court Rule
table and have found that the underlying data have, indeed,
been updated. Therefore, in all of our forensic economics
work we are now using the updated figures which, we believe,
are fully within the spirit of the law regarding mandatory
use of the combined/unisex life expectancy table.
For your future reference, the source is the following:
Life Table for the Total Population: United States, 2003,
Table 1, National Vital Statistics Reports, Vol. 54, No.
14, National Center for Health Statistics, April 19, 2006.
This source represents an update to the underlying source
relied upon in producing the statutory life expectancy
table presented in Appendix I of the Rules Governing the
Courts of the State of New Jersey. The source may be accessed
at the following website: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/pubs/pubd/nvsr/54/54-pre.htm
