Dr. Tinari was quoted in a Pennsylvania newspaper report regarding St. Luke's settlement of five cases involving serial killer nurse Charles Cullen. The families had sued the hospital and the killer over the deaths he caused. Dr. Tinari was asked about the sealed settlement. "In the cases before Reibman, the fact that all five victims were elderly could diminish a settlement, said Frank Tinari of Tinari Economics Group in New Jersey. Tinari essentially puts values on lives and testifies for plaintiffs in civil cases involving deaths. He said age and earning power go a long way when determining damages. How much someone suffered before dying can also drive up a settlement or verdict, he said. Several other factors also come into play. ‘A lot of times, settlements could be limited by the insurance coverage the hospital has,’ Tinari said. [SOURCE: The Morning Call, Nov. 29, 2012.] |
